Geo was set up by two practising translators with
over 10 years experience in the language industry.
Our driving forces are producing the highest quality
services, helping to save our clients money by talking
common sense and an annoyingly righteous attitude
to the environment. Everything we do is geared towards
providing the best possible services. We like to
work with people and customers who share our values
and our commitment to bringing about the best possible
results.
Oh… and we’re also ridiculously obsessive
about spelling and grammar. That’s good if
you’re a client and bad if you’re a
supplier who doesn’t spell check their proposals.
Be warned. Why
us?
Over 95% of our clients stay with us and would recommend
us. Quality is paramount and as we’re staffed
by professional linguists and translators we take
pride in every area of the services we provide.
We’re friendly, helpful and we genuinely believe
in maintaining an open, honest partnering approach
with all our clients. We’ll save you money.
We’ll save you time. We’ll even do it
in an environmentally friendly way. We won’t
do your dirty laundry.
What we do
Geo helps you to bridge the language and culture
gap so you can succeed in the global market. We
take a no-nonsense approach and offer a cost-effective
one-stop service for translation, interpreting,
multilingual web and desktop publishing, language
lessons, culture training and more. With over 10
years of experience in the language services industry
and professional linguists’ qualifications
and memberships, Geo's personnel will make sure
your company is perfectly presented in every language
with confidentiality guaranteed.
As professional linguists ourselves we take pride
in what we do. That's why all our translations are
carried out by qualified personnel, checked, typeset
and checked again. Professional interpreters are
assigned on the basis of their expertise and industry
sector knowledge. Teachers and trainers are selected
for their knowledge, passion and ability to fit
with a client's expectations.
What's more - we work with you at all times throughout
a project - if you need us to work to tight deadlines
to get a project done, we will. If it will help
for us to visit your clients directly and learn
what is important to them in the project, we will.
Need us to keep terminology databases for you or
advice on how to cut your translation costs through
the use of translation technology? Just give us
a call or start with our article on how
to save money on translation costs.
How
we do it…our commitment to providing quality
services.
Whilst we don’t take ourselves very seriously,
we take what we do very seriously. Our priority
and our pride is the provision of top class language
services. We’re undergoing ISO 9001 Certification
for our management systems in 2007/08. Additionally
our management systems and recruitment processes
integrate the BS EN15038 quality standard for translation
service providers as part of our ISO certification.
We’ll also be demonstrating our commitment
to the environment by undergoing ISO 14001 in the
coming year. We’ll be accredited by a proper, UKAS registered certification board and not one of the myriad of non-accredited certification boards. For a list of accredited ISO certification boards, see here
We adhere to the professional codes of conduct for
the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI),
the American Translators’ Association (ATA)
and the Chartered Institute of Linguists (IOL).
We’re even staffed by professional translators
with professional translation qualifications and
memberships.
The quality process starts from the first phone
call when our project managers will talk to you
about your needs and deadlines and ask questions
to get you thinking. A project manager is assigned
to you from the outset and will deal with any queries
you might have. All our linguists are suitably qualified
and assessed native speakers of their respective
languages. Getting things right from the beginning
allows us to combine a premium quality service with
very competitive pricing, expert knowledge and an
open and honest attitude. Being quality obsessed
doesn’t make us utterly, utterly boring, by
the way…just slightly pedantic. We’re
not boring, OK?
Technology
We take a practical view of the latest translation
and proofreading technology. If we’re sure
it’ll help a client by reducing costs, time
to market or ensuring consistency of terminology,
then we’ll recommend it. If it would be impractical
or costly to use it, then we'll be honest and tell
you.
All our internal systems and software are based
on the latest technology. Here’s just a sample
of some of the systems we use:
| |
Translation Memory
Design
CAD
Gisting software

Environment
At Geo we recognise the need for social responsibility.
In 2007-2008 we will be undergoing ISO 14001 approval
to recognise our commitment to the continual improvement
of the environment and we hope to publish our full
environmental plan here shortly to allow others
to get ideas for potential changes they can make
to their organisations in order to reduce their
environmental impact.
Whilst we recognise the counter arguments against
global warming, we can’t help the nagging
feeling that deviating too far from nature can’t
be a great thing and we don’t want to get
caught out.
Some simple things we do:
| |
|
|
 |
Use recycled materials or materials sourced
from sustainable supplies wherever possible,
including our printed marketing materials. |
|
 |
 |
 |
 |
Ensure we recycle our ink cartridges and
use biodegradable inks for our office printing
and our marketing materials. |
|
 |
 |
 |
 |
Encourage a paperless office... we even
use an electronic fax service that converts
the faxes to email. We’ve never ever
received a hard copy of a fax!!! |
|
 |
 |
 |
 |
Consider transport options when sending
staff or interpreters to meetings. |
|
 |
 |
 |
 |
Cycle to work and rant on and on about the
benefits of cycling. |
|
 |
|
 |
Environmental issues are increasingly
important and there are many options for businesses
to reduce costs by being "greener" with
their waste. The three key aspects of waste management
are:
| |
Minimise:
Reduce what you use so you produce less waste.
Recover: Re-use or recycle
waste, either within your business or through
various schemes.
Disposal: How you get rid
of waste can have an impact on cost and environmental
impact. |
We at Geo regularly audit key aspects of our environmental
impact, including transport issues (we're very bicycle
friendly) to make sure that we are doing our best.
You can ask to see a copy of our environmental plan
if you like! We also love to hear about good ideas
for recycling or improvements we can make to any
of our processes – so give us a call if you
have any ideas! Here’s an example of some
tips we’d like to avoid:

Waste |

Don’t eat. |

Switch off your television when there
isn’t anything on. You’ll
find that this happens quite a lot.
Don’t just put it on standby! |
|
| |
 |
 |
 |
| |
 |
Set fire to your car. Make sure it
is your own car before you do this.
Then plant a tree to offset the carbon
you’ve just created. Hug tree
to alleviate guilt. Geo does not condone
setting things on fire, or hugging trees
for that matter. |
|
| |
 |
 |
 |
| |
 |
Concrete production uses large amounts
of CO2, so build your house of straw.
Or sticks. |
|
| |
 |
 |
 |
| |
 |
No… not sticks.. that would
mean killing the poor fluffy trees.
This really isn’t easy, is it? |
|
| |
 |
 |
 |
| |
 |
Use more concrete. Actually this one
is true… concrete absorbs
a lot of carbon… Unfortunately
the process of manufacturing it creates
more than it offsets… so no…
don’t use concrete. Blimey…
this recycling stuff is a minefield. |
|
| |
 |
 |
 |
| |
 |
Avoid making many trips to your local
waste recycling centre as this increases
the amount of carbon emissions…
instead simply buy a really big car,
maybe a 4 x 4 or a Hummer or something
practical with loads of space so you
don’t have to make multiple journeys.
|
|
| |
 |
 |
 |
| |
 |
Buy a can crusher. They’re really
really essential. Honest. Whatever did
we do before can crushers? Oh yeah…
we just trod on them. |
|
| |
 |
 |
 |
| |
 |
Oh…hang on… they’re
starting to make more environmentally
friendly concrete nowadays…this
is confusing. |
|
| |
 |
 |
 |
| |
 |
Use both sides of toilet paper. Even
better – don’t use the paper.
It’ll mean washing a bit more
thoroughly. Not too thoroughly, though
– don’t want to start using
up all the valuable water supplies.
Rainwater is probably OK, if you have
some next to the toilet. This isn’t
going to work, is it? |
|
| |
 |
 |
 |
| |
 |
The silliest one of all - do nothing.
