You want to work with us? Well, that’s a great start! However, you’ll need to make sure that you fit the bill. We won’t just work with anyone out of desperation, you know. Here’s what we want to see from our linguists:

Desirable criteria:

Experience in a certain sector.
Software skills with lots of different packages especially translation memory and terminology management.
A borderline-psychotic obsession with formatting, spelling and grammar.
Cycling proficiency certificate or a 10m swimming certificate (optional, but you never know).
A genuinely honest, open and helpful attitude. We like to establish long-term working partnerships with people we (and our clients) can trust and turn to for help. People who can accept constructive criticism. People who can understand the relationship between linguist, service provider and the end-user. People who understand what true customer service is and will work as part of our team to provide it. If you’re not going to be able to do your absolute best for every job and you think you might just get away with it occasionally, or if you think that asking questions is an impediment to progress, then we’d rather you didn’t apply as it’ll be a waste of time for all concerned.

Essential criteria:

You should be a native speaker of the target language and a competent linguist with your skills acquired through one or more of the following:

Translators, Proofreaders, Revisers and Expert Reviewers

A formal higher education in translation (a recognised degree) or a post-graduate translation diploma; OR
A degree in another subject AND a minimum of 2 years documented experience; OR
TRANSLATION:  At least 5 years documented professional translation experience plus 2 references.
REVISERS: As above.
PROOFREADERS: At least two years experience plus references.

On all occasions you should also submit copies of any qualifications and references.  Your application will not be accepted without these.  You may also be required to undertake a test translation/proofreading test as required.

Interpreters

Consecutive Interpreting:

A minimum of 120 days experience over 3 years, a professional qualification or membership in interpreting and references.
Public Service Interpreting:

Diploma in Public Service Interpreting or Metropolitan Police test AND successful CRB check.

Voice-over artists

Applications are accepted on a case by case.  If you are applying for voice-over work you MUST send a digital voice sample to us which will be uploaded to our online database. This will be used to give samples to clients and we will not divulge your details. Applications without a voice sample will not be accepted.  Please also remember to detail basics such as the range of voices you can cover, the equipment you have available and your union status (if any).

Language trainers

A teaching qualification in your native language AND language teaching experience; OR
Degree in another subject AND 3 years language teaching experiences plus 2 references.

Culture Trainers and other consultants

Culture trainers are selected on a case by case basis. Please send your CV detailing your experience and references.
