Written Assamese has symbols for both short and long vowels, but in the spoken language all vowels are short.

Profile

Assamese is spoken in the Indian state of Assam (known mostly for its tea), where it serves both as an official language and lingua franca. The language… not the tea.

Assamese uses a great number of classifiers that are used to define different types of objects. Examples of classifiers would include objects that are flat, objects like flowers, objects that are found in small bundles etc.

“Jollywood” is the name given to the Assamese language movie industry, so called as it is based in Jyoti Chitraban, Assam.
