Interesting Fact

The words "boogie" (from m'bugi) and "funky" (from lu'fuki) come from the Kongo language of central Africa.

Kongo is also known as Kikongo, Kikoongo and Congo. The prefix ki- means language so Kikongo literally means Kongo language. In West Africa it serves as a lingua franca. There is no set spelling for the language.

Creolized forms of the Kikongo can be found in regions influenced by African emigration in South America and the Caribbean.
