Profile

Northern Ndebele is a Bantu language together with other African languages such as Zulu, Kinyarwanda, Swahili and Lingala to name but a few.

There are two languages referred to as Ndebele: Northern Ndebele, spoken in Zimbabwe, and Southern Ndebele, spoken in South Africa. Northern Ndebele is essentially a dialect of Zulu, while Southern Ndebele is in a different subgroup.

Northern and Southern Ndebele are however mutually intelligible.
