Sindhi is spoken in the Sindhi and Balochistan regions of Pakistan, and in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra of India. The largest Sindhi-speaking city is Karachi, the capital of Pakistan. Sindhi also used to be the national language of Pakistan before it was replaced by Urdu and English.
The name of the language is derived from the Sindhu River, which is known as the Indus River in English.
