Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can public sector interpreting be performed remotely?

Yes. We provide remote public sector interpreting over the phone (OPI) and via video remote interpreting (VRI) on dedicated platforms and through major web conferencing tools. Mode is recommended based on the setting — urgent or short-notice appointments often work well remotely, sensitive safeguarding or court welfare appointments may still call for in-person.

  • For which public sectors can Geo Language Services provide interpreters?

Healthcare and NHS settings, local authorities and social services, courts and tribunals, immigration and asylum, education, housing, police and probation. Interpreters are assigned by sector and — where the assignment requires it — with appropriate clearance (DBS, NRCPD, registered public service interpreter status).

  • Does Geo Language Services work with charities?

Yes. Charity and NGO work is a regular part of our public sector practice, often involving sensitive subject matter — safeguarding, mental health, domestic abuse, refugee support, end-of-life care. Interpreters and translators assigned to charity work are briefed on the sensitivities involved and supported with appropriate working practices.

  • Can Geo Language Services provide support in organising public sector interpreting logistics and technology?

Yes. We handle booking and confirmation, interpreter briefing, equipment supply for on-site assignments where needed, and platform setup for remote sessions. We can also help with multi-language events or multi-session programmes (community engagement, public consultations).

  • How does Geo Language Services ensure confidentiality of medical interpreting sessions?

Through NDA controls, GDPR compliance, vetted interpreter selection and Cyber Essentials-certified technical controls on any platforms we manage. Medical interpreting is bound by patient confidentiality regardless of language or mode, and our interpreters are briefed on confidentiality obligations and held to them under contract.
